Frequently Asked Questions

Products and Application

Can I get a colour match?

Yes. We recommend booking a consultation so we can assess your hair and recommend the most suitable colour, texture, and extension method.

Which extension method should I choose?

The best extension method for you will depend on your hair type, lifestyle, desired look, maintenance preferences, and hair goals.

At Glam Bar Beauty, we offer a range of extension methods, including Weaves, I-Tips, Nano Tips, Tape-Ins, Lace Closures, and Lace Frontals. Not every method is suitable for every client, which is why we recommend booking a consultation before purchasing or installing extensions.

During your consultation, we will assess your natural hair and recommend the most suitable option to achieve your desired result while maintaining the health of your hair.

All extensions should be professionally installed and maintained to minimise the risk of damage to your natural hair and maximise the lifespan of your extensions.

How long will my hair extensions last?

The lifespan of your hair extensions will depend on the hair type, installation method, frequency of wear, styling habits, and how well they are maintained.

As a general guide:

Glam Bar Beauty Virgin Human Hair

With proper care and maintenance, Glam Bar Beauty virgin human hair can often be reused multiple times and may last 12 months or longer.

Beauty Works Remy Human Hair

With proper care and maintenance, Beauty Works Remy human hair can often be reused and may last up to 6–12 months, depending on the collection, frequency of wear, and aftercare routine.

To maximise the lifespan of your extensions, we recommend:

  • Following the recommended aftercare routine.
  • Using extension-safe products.
  • Limiting excessive heat styling.
  • Keeping up with maintenance appointments.
  • Storing removable extensions correctly when not in use.

Please note that hair extensions are a natural product, and longevity will vary from person to person.

Can I reuse my hair extensions?

Yes. Most premium human hair extensions can be reused multiple times when properly maintained and cared for.

The number of times your extensions can be reused will depend on several factors, including the hair quality, extension method, installation, styling habits, and aftercare routine.

To maximise the lifespan and reusability of your extensions, we recommend:

  • Following the recommended aftercare guidance.
  • Using extension-safe products.
  • Limiting excessive heat styling.
  • Attending regular maintenance appointments.
  • Having your extensions professionally removed and reinstalled where applicable.

Please note that hair extensions are a natural product, and their lifespan and reusability will vary from person to person.

How often will I need maintenance appointments?

Hair extensions require regular maintenance as your natural hair continues to grow.

The recommended maintenance schedule will depend on the extension method used, but most clients should expect maintenance appointments every 4–8 weeks.

Keeping up with your maintenance appointments is essential for maintaining the appearance of your extensions, ensuring your natural hair remains healthy, and preventing issues such as matting, tangling, slippage, or unnecessary tension on your hair.

Your stylist will advise you on the ideal maintenance schedule for your chosen extension method and hair type.

Can I colour or tone my hair extensions?

Glam Bar Beauty Hair Extensions

Yes. Our Glam Bar Beauty hair extensions are made from premium virgin human hair and can be coloured, toned, and customised by a qualified professional.

Because virgin hair has not undergone previous colour processing, it can typically be lifted, coloured, and customised more effectively than pre-coloured hair extensions.

As with natural hair, chemical services such as colouring, bleaching, and toning may affect the condition and lifespan of the hair, particularly when lifting to significantly lighter shades. For the best results, we recommend using an experienced colourist who is familiar with hair extensions.

Please note that we cannot guarantee the outcome of any colouring, bleaching, or toning service performed after purchase, and all chemical processing is carried out at the customer's own risk.

Beauty Works Hair Extensions

Beauty Works hair extensions are made from Remy human hair, and many shades have already undergone colour processing to achieve their final colour.

While further colouring or toning may be possible, we recommend consulting a qualified colourist before carrying out any chemical services.

Please note that Glam Bar Beauty cannot guarantee the outcome of any colouring, bleaching, toning, or chemical treatment performed after purchase. Such treatments may affect the quality, performance, and lifespan of the hair and are carried out entirely at the customer's own risk.

Hair Extensions Maintenance

How do I wash my professional hair extensions?

The recommended washing frequency will vary depending on your extension method, lifestyle, scalp condition, and product usage.

As a general guide:

  • Tape-In Extensions: 1–2 times per week.
  • I-Tips, Nano Tips and Micro Ring Extensions: 1–3 times per week.
  • Weaves, Lace Closures and Lace Frontals: Every 1–2 weeks, or as advised by your stylist.
  • Clip-In Extensions: Wash after every 10–15 wears, or sooner if there is significant product build-up.

When washing your extensions:

  • Use extension-safe products where possible.
  • Avoid applying heavy oils, masks, or conditioners directly to tapes, bonds, or attachment points.
  • Ensure attachment points and braided foundations are thoroughly dried after washing.
  • Always follow the aftercare advice provided by your stylist.

Please note that washing frequency may vary depending on your activity level, scalp needs, and styling routine.

How do I style my professional hair extensions?

Hair extensions can be curled, straightened, and styled just like your natural hair, provided the correct precautions are taken.

To protect the integrity of the hair:

  • Always apply a heat protectant before using heated styling tools.
  • Keep styling tools at or below 180°C.
  • Avoid applying direct heat to bonds, tapes, rings, or attachment points.
  • Limit excessive heat styling wherever possible to prolong the lifespan of the hair.

Regular use of nourishing oils and extension-safe styling products can also help maintain softness, shine, and manageability.

Can I sleep in my professional hair extensions?

Yes, absolutely.

To minimise tangling and maintain the quality of your extensions, we recommend preparing your hair before going to bed.

Before sleeping:

  • Gently brush your hair to remove any tangles.
  • Secure your hair in a loose plait or low ponytail.
  • Consider using a satin or silk bonnet, scarf, or pillowcase to reduce friction while sleeping.

Following a simple nighttime routine can significantly reduce matting and make your hair easier to manage and style the following day.

Why have my hair extensions changed colour?

Hair extension discolouration is usually caused by external factors and is not considered a manufacturing fault.

Common causes include:

  • UV exposure and sunlight
  • Chlorine from swimming pools
  • Salt water
  • Excessive heat styling
  • Hard water and mineral deposits
  • Sun creams, perfumes, moisturisers, and cosmetic products
  • Colouring or toning treatments

To help prevent discolouration:

  • Use a heat protectant before styling.
  • Keep heat tools at or below 180°C.
  • Wear a hat or tie your hair up when spending long periods in the sun.
  • Rinse your hair after swimming.
  • Avoid direct contact between extensions and SPF products.

Why are my hair extensions shedding?

A small amount of shedding is normal, particularly with wefted hair.

Excessive shedding may be caused by:

  • Cutting or damaging the weft
  • Excessive heat styling
  • Improper installation
  • Excessive tension on the hair
  • General wear and tear over time

If you are concerned about excessive shedding, please contact us with photos and details of your installation.

Why are my hair extensions tangled, knotting, matting, or bunching?

Hair extensions are made from real human hair and, like natural hair, require regular maintenance to stay soft, smooth, and manageable.

Tangling, knotting, matting, and bunching are usually caused by one or more of the following:

  • Insufficient brushing
  • Product build-up
  • Excessive heat styling
  • Sleeping with wet or loose hair
  • Chlorine or salt water exposure
  • Inadequate conditioning
  • Missing maintenance appointments
  • Using unsuitable hair care products

To help prevent tangling and matting:

  • Brush your extensions daily using an extension-friendly brush.
  • Ensure your hair is completely dry before sleeping.
  • Secure your hair in a loose braid or ponytail at night.
  • Follow a consistent aftercare routine.
  • Keep up with recommended maintenance appointments.
  • Use heat protectant when styling with heated tools.

Please note that tangling, knotting, matting, and bunching are typically the result of wear, environmental factors, or aftercare practices and are not considered manufacturing faults.
